  Beginners and Second Level classes are held on Tuesdays at Station Branch, where small informal groups discuss various topics in English. Beginners classes are 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and Second Level are from 2 to 3 p.m. Groups are facilitated by librarian Barbara Buckley, and refreshments will be served.   Branch Head Librarian Kathleen Cotter will lead a discussion of James Baldwin’s Go Tell It on the Mountain at 7 p.m. at the Station Branch.   Have your blood pressure checked free of charge by a clinical nurse from Saint Francis Hospital from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Station Branch. Hypertension, also known as high blood pressure, affects an astounding one-in-four adult Americans and usually has no symptoms, which is why it is often called the “silent killer.” Registration is not required.

English Language Conversation Classes at Station

English Conversation Classes for Beginners and Second Level are held on Tuesdays at the Station Branch. The Beginner’s class is held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. and stresses basic grammar and spoken language, including vocabulary guided by audio-visual guides. English Language Conversation Second Level is held from 2 to 3 p.m. for those who have some fluency in English. For further information, call 516-466-8055, ext. 218. The West Egg Book Club will now meet on the last Tuesday of each month. The group will discuss Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly, which focuses on the lives of three women that are set on a collision course when Kasia is sent to Ravensbrück, the notorious Nazi concentration camp for women, and their stories cross continents as Caroline and Kasia strive to bring justice to those whom history has forgotten, at 7 p.m. at the Station Branch.
