Two Teachers Are Tenured

gn schoolsAt its October meeting, the Great Neck Public Schools Board of Education granted tenure to two elementary school reading-recovery teachers.

The teachers granted tenure were Jill Mazur at John F. Kennedy School and Miriam Doremus at Saddle Rock School.

Superintendent Teresa Prendergast met with both candidates before making her tenure recommendations and explained that “tenure is not taken lightly and that Great Neck has high expectations for its teachers.”

Board President Barbara Berkowitz, in her congratulatory remarks, said, “Tenure is earned. It is the highest honor we bestow. We want you to stay here as part of our educational family.”

Kennedy Principal Ronald Gimondo said that Mazur is an, “essential member of JFK. She is an exceptional teacher, intelligent, reflective, with an extensive knowledge base. Mazur skillfully implements literacy initiatives.”

Of Doremus, Saddle Rock Principal Eric Nezowitz, said, “She is a highly trained reading recovery teacher, with much talent. She is a positive influence with a passion for literacy who believes that all individuals have the capacity to learn.”
