busIn accordance with New York State Education Law, free transportation for the 2016–17 school year will be available to children attending nonpublic schools who meet the following walking-distance-from-school requirements. To be eligible for free transportation, the walking distance from a student’s home to a nonpublic school must exceed .5 mile for students in grades K to 5; .75 mile for students in grades 6 to 8; and 1 mile for students in grades 9 to 12. Transportation is limited to a maximum distance of 15 miles. Other rules may apply for children with disabilities. Residents of the Great Neck School District who seek free bus transportation for their children to nonpublic schools in September 2016, and who meet the walking-
distance requirements above, must submit an application, hand-delivered or postmarked by April 1, to the Transportation Office, Great Neck Public Schools, 345 Lakeville Rd., Great Neck, NY 11020. The April 1 deadline is mandated by state law. The Non-Public School Transportation Request Form is available on the district website at www.greatneck.k12.ny.us. Click on Forms in the blue left-hand column, then on Transportation.
