Town Appoints New Comptroller

Tania Orenstein is the Town of North Hempstead’s new comptroller.

Tania Orenstein was appointed Town of North Hempstead comptroller. She formerly served as chief deputy comptroller under Acting Comptroller Jessica Lamendola, a native of Kansas, who relocated to her home state.

Orenstein, a certified public accountant and Great Neck resident, holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Yeshiva University and a master’s in Accounting from Queens College.

Lamendola served dual roles for the town, as acting comptroller since March 2018, and as director of finance since July 2016. She previously held the position of manager of fiscal projects with the Nassau County Office of Management and Budget. She will join the City of Topeka as director of administrative and financial services.

“I am so grateful to Jessica for agreeing to serve the town in two very critical roles,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “Her astute knowledge of finances, conservative budgeting practices and outstanding managerial skills helped our town achieve and maintain an Aaa bond rating, stay under the state-mandated tax cap and keep us on firm financial footing. We wish her and her family the best as they set out on this new adventure. I have confidence that Tania is extremely capable to take on this role, and I look forward to working with her in this new capacity.”

Orenstein joined the town as deputy comptroller in April 2017 and was promoted to chief deputy comptroller in February 2018. She previously held positions as a senior associate at KPMG LLP, assistant finance manager at Time Inc. and controller at the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee.

“I am excited to serve as comptroller and to continue the town’s strong financial record,” said Orenstein.
