The Great Neck North Boys JVA Basketball team played Elmont this past week. Although these teams hadn’t competed against each other before this year, the previous matchup was very close.
The Blazers came into this game on a three-game winning streak. However, the Elmont squad has had a perfect season so far. In this game, Manny Hakimian of the Blazers had a solid and very efficient 13 points. He also played great defense, locking down the opposing players, and had an enormous block which boosted the momentum for the Blazers.
Additionally, Jonathan Javaheri caught fire early in the game with a few quick threes and really nice assists. The North team had a six-point advantage over Elmont coming into the second quarter, but the players’ fight just wasn’t enough to overpower the opposing team. The Blazers next game was at home on Saturday versus Manhasset.
The Winter Track team played in a conference championship meet on Tuesday, Jan. 15. There were many positives in this meet, such as Eytan Ran’s pole vaulting skills which got him into All Conference. Also, Damien Chafe and David Hassid ran fantastic times in their competitions.
The Great Neck North Boys Swimming team competed against Massapequa this past week. These teams played each other in the first game of the season, and Massapequa won that meet in a dominating fashion. However, the Blazers were on a winning streak and wanted to put up a fight and continue its success. Great swims by Wellington Chen, Jonathan Hakimi and Coby Kavakeb in their individual events led the Blazers to a great win over the best team in the conference.
