Cindy Doerler, representing the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICADD), was the featured presenter at the Feb. 24 Rotary Club of Great Neck meeting.

She outlined the epidemic of alcohol and drug addiction currently plaguing Long Island. Every day, another young person succumbs and dies from substance abuse.

The mission of LICADD is to address the addictive climate of our times by providing initial attention and referral services to individuals, families and children through intervention, education and professional guidance to overcome the ravages of alcohol and other drug-related problems. With offices in Nassau and Suffolk Counties, LICADD offers individual and group clinical services, as well as anger management and eating disorder seminars. The Rotary Club of Great Neck invites local residents and business-people to attend its breakfast meetings to learn how Rotary benefits the town and how they can participate. The group meets Wednesday mornings at 8 a.m. in the boardroom of TD Bank at 2 Great Neck Rd.
