The progress and development of local basketball
The varsity and junior varsity teams at Great Neck North traveled to Freeport for scrimmages over the weekend and were very effective.
Both teams manhandled the South Shore perennial powerhouse. The sharp shooting Blazers have been accurate from three-point range, as well as inside.
The JV team is loaded with crafty guard play, while varsity is deep and balanced.
In anticipation of the upcoming rivalry game on Dec. 8, we should mention the Great Neck South squad.
Travel one mile down Middle Neck Road and you will find the Great Neck South sensational senior Sheldon Henry. Henry has been fine-tuning his skills, is already in more-than-excellent physical condition and has a new jump shot to go along with his awesome all-around game. He is being heavily recruited by some East Coast Division 2 schools and should bring promise for the Rebels this season.
Something to note: The Great Neck Basketball Academy has begun construction on its high-tech indoor facility. Two immaculate courts are scheduled to open in Great Neck this February, which is already bringing in unique sponsorships and an array of coaching talents.
