A Kings Point man was arrested on Dec. 16 for allegedly collecting a check that wasn’t his, forging the signature and then depositing it into his own bank account.
Police say 56-year-old Jerry Hauser deposited the $1,940 check in Freeport on Sept. 26. During the investigation, police say they discovered Hauser engaged in an ongoing scheme to rent houses in Jericho, Syosset and Kings Point and not pay rent.
Hauser gave landlords numerous checks that would later bounce, according to police, and owes more than $50,000 in back rent.
Hauser was arrested at his home and charged with multiple counts of grand larceny and defrauding.
