Here’s the latest on Ilana Sherman, the ninth grader at Great Neck South High School, who was featured in the Nov. 11-17 issue of the Great Neck Record for winning the title of the U.S. Figure Skating North Atlantic Intermediate Ladies Champion, earning her one of the top four berths to compete at the Eastern Sectionals.
Sherman competed at the Eastern Sectionals in Simsbury, Connecticut, and placed fourth in Intermediate Ladies, which qualified her to compete at the 2016 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, which will be held in Saint Paul, Minneapolis, from Jan. 15 to 24.
This is an exciting time for Sherman. Her dream is to compete at the Olympics. She trains six days a week at Ice House in New Jersey with her coach Craig Maurizi, along with other specialized coaches. She has a regimented daily schedule, first attending ninth grade at Great Neck South High School and then commuting to New Jersey for her training both on and off the ice. She is dedicated to her goal and works hard to excel in skating and in school.
