Subtitled versions of Town of North Hempstead’s Hurricane Preparedness Public Service Announcement (PSA) are available in Spanish, Mandarin, Korean and Vietnamese at www.northhempsteadny.gov/ready.
“It’s critically important that everyone is able to get information about hurricane preparedness,” said Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “These subtitled versions of the town PSA will provide useful facts for residents who speak these languages.”
Last summer, North Hempstead partnered with Adelphi University to create a PSA aimed at informing residents about being prepared for man-made and natural disasters, including hurricanes. The joint project was accomplished with the help of a $7,500 grant from Adelphi as part of its Long Island Resilient Communities Grant, which was awarded in 2014.
The one-minute PSA offers a somewhat satirical look at hurricane preparation, while addressing the many items that should be included in an emergency preparedness kit, including bottled water, medications, a flashlight, radio, tools, batteries, matches, candles and a go bag with personal items.
