North High Performance

Enjoy selections from the Great Neck North High Opera Theatre production of Don Giovanni, led by Dr. Pamela Levy, department head of Fine and Performing Arts, at 1:30 p.m. in Main’s community room.

Monday, Feb. 11

Craft for a Cause at Station

Volunteer and earn community service by participating in craft and writing projects to impact youth, families, veterans and pets from 7 to 8 p.m. No registration is needed; Adam Hinz at 516-466-8055, ext. 246, or ahinz@greatnecklibrary.org.

Mary Dono will present Just a Few of Our Black Artists at Main, including “The Sunflower’s Quilting Bee at Arles” by Faith Ringgold.

Black Artists Featured

Mary Dono, a retired teacher and administrator for the NYC Deparment of Education, will present Just a Few of Our Black Artists, including Faith Ringgold, Kara Walker, Horace Pippin, Laura Wheeler Waring, Augusta Savage, Simmie Knox and James Van Der Zee, at 2 p.m. in Main’s community room.

 

Wednesday, Feb. 13

AARP Tax Assistance

Get help preparing and filing Federal tax returns online from AARP tax preparers every Wednesday through April 10 from 10 a.m. to  2 p.m., with the last appointment at 1 p.m., at Parkville. Make an appointment at 516-466-8055, ext. 273.

Movie Matinée at Main

The film, about a band singer and former matinée idol, will be shown on Wednesday, Feb. 13 at 2 p.m. at Main.

Mindfulness Meditation

All skill levels can join expert Carolyn Carpentiere for Mindfulness Meditation to strengthen focus and attention and release stress, from 7:15 to 8 p.m. in Main’s community room. Bring a mat or use a library chair.

Thursday, Feb. 14

On Health and Healing

Join librarian Mimi Rabizadeh as she discusses the latest research in medicine on the health of the gut and how it influences the brain, immune system and overall health at 12 p.m. in Main’s large multipurpose room. Registration strongly suggested at 516-466-8055, ext. 218/219, or online.

Encore Film at Station

An encore of the Wednesday matinée will be shown at 2 p.m. at Station.

Friday, Feb. 15

The Writer Within

Access your authentic voice and explore the power of imagination, self-expression and storytelling when author Lynda Aron facilitates this writing workshop from 1 to 3 p.m. in Main’s large multipurpose room.

Five free tickets per family are available at all Great Neck Library locations for these shows for ages 2 to 12 with an adult: Bilingual Birdies on Tuesday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. at Parkville; Grins and Grins on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at 11 a.m. at Main; and Jester Jim on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 11 a.m. at Station.
