Great Neck Public Schools Television (GNPS/TV) is the proud recipient of three national awards in the Alliance for Community Media (ACM) 2022 Hometown Media Awards and three international awards through the 43rd annual Telly Awards.

2022 Hometown Media Awards

The student division of the Hometown Media Awards requires that the overall direction, production, and all technical tasks (camera, directing, editing, sound, etc.) be performed by students at the primary, secondary, or undergraduate level. Student-produced programs from GNPS/TV won the top honor in three categories: Local Performance, Educational Activities, and Educational Profile.

The winning submission in the Local Performance category was the North High School Winter Concert, filmed in December 2021. This category highlights the filming of music concerts, plays, or dance performances.

The winning video in the Educational Activities category was the South High School Commencement Ceremony, filmed at Hofstra University in June 2021. This category is reserved for videos of school-sponsored programs or feature events other than sports or performing arts.

The winning submission in the Educational Profile category was a Board of Education Appreciation video produced by the GNPS/TV team in October 2021. This video, created in celebration of School Board Recognition Week, highlighted elementary programs and the successful reopening of schools for all students during the pandemic. The Educational Profile category is for programs that showcase the school or district students or employees at work.

43rd Annual Telly Awards

The Telly Awards is an international program that honors excellence in video and television across a variety of platforms. GNPS/TV received one Gold, one Silver, and one Bronze trophy, all in the Television-Student area of competition. It is noteworthy that GNPS/TV is the recipient of the only Gold Telly Award in this category, as well as the only public school district represented — all other award recipients in this category are colleges and universities.

GNPS/TV received a Gold Telly Award for a virtual production of A Chorus Line. The South High School Performing Arts Department partnered with the GNPS/TV team to develop a safe and creative way to present this student musical amid pandemic protocols in the spring of 2021. Each actor filmed their role individually, and the performances were edited together to create a full ensemble production that was broadcast to a virtual audience.

A Silver Telly Award was received for a Board of Education Appreciation video produced by the GNPS/TV team in October 2021, which also received a Hometown Media Award.
A Bronze Telly Award was received for the filming of the North High School Commencement Ceremony, filmed at Hofstra University in June 2021.

GNPS/TV programs air on Optimum Channel
