The Nassau County Fire Commission hosted its Annual Awards Ceremony at the Nassau County Firefighters Museum & Education Center in Garden City on Wednesday, April 27. The Great Neck Alert Fire Company, Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company and the Technical Rescue Teams from Manhasset-Lakeville, Port Washington, Bethpage and North Bellmore all received Nassau County Unit Citations for responding to a call last July where a 5,000-pound, 85-foot tall tree crashed into a Great Neck home, almost killing a sleeping 20-year-old college student. Through a coordinated effort of all the units there, they were able to free the trapped girl who fortunately escaped any serious injuries from the incident.
