The 2016 Gold Coast International Film Festival (GCIFF), supported by North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth and the town board, will be providing a free screening of Hail the Conquering Hero at the Great Neck Squire Theater at 115 Middle Neck Rd. in Great Neck on Nov. 11 at 1:30 p.m. in honor of Veterans Day. Academy-Award-wining writer and director Preston Sturges delivers a hilarious satire on the American penchant for hero worship in this quick-witted comedy classic. The film was nominated for an Academy Award in 1945 for best screenplay and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. It features Eddie Bracken, Ella Raines and William Demarest.
