The Great Neck Teachers Association was scheduled to hold its second annual Color Fun Run/Walk on Sunday, May 19, at Great Neck South High School, 341 Lakeville Rd., to raise money for students in need of financial help for summer learning programs and camps. Due to unforeseeable circumstances, the run/walk is postponed until next school year.

Event organizer Cindy Pavlic said she puts this fundraiser together “because there are a lot of bright students with families who have financial difficulties who benefit from the summer enrichment program. It makes things easier for parents and children alike. It is something to engage the community and to raise money for scholarship.”

The Color Fun Run/Walk is an untimed 3K for all ages and fitness abilities.

The colorful day of family fitness was to include raffles, food, entertainment, the Kona Ice truck—and lots of fun.

Pavlic’s colleague at the Village School Lauren Sullivan, who planned to participate in the event, explained why she was going to join in. “I do it for what it is benefiting, I want to give kids a chance to be a part of summer learning that they otherwise wouldn’t be able to do.”

Emma Strassberg, who was also planning to participate, said that she would recommend the event because it “is something new, something you haven’t done a million times. You could bring some friends and hang out, get some exercise and have fun, rather than staying home and watching TV.”

Check-in was scheduled to begin at 9 a.m., and there were supposed to be three waves of runners—at 9:45 a.m., 9:55 a.m. and 10:05 a.m.

The entry fee includes a T-shirt, race bib and color packet.

The cost for participants preregistered by May 18 was $20; $25 for those registering on race day. The entry fee was to include a T-shirt, race bib and color packet. People are welcome to donate to the cause, since 100 percent of the proceeds support students in attending the Great Neck Public Schools summer programs.
