UnknownClean Slate Laser, a tattoo-removal center with an office on Middle Neck Road, will offer complimentary radiation tattoo removal for patients who have undergone treatment for cancer through its Erase Cancer effort.

As part of common radiation treatments for various types of cancer, physicians use tattoos to pinpoint the areas of a patient’s body that have been treated. These are just like any other type of tattoo, lasting the individual’s entire life unless removed. The new Erase Cancer courtesy service was the idea of Clean Slate Laser owner and founder Mary Garnett, who is the daughter of a breast cancer survivor.

“We are very pleased to offer this no-cost service to those who’ve had difficult battles with cancer,” said Garnett. “Most of us know someone who has dealt with cancer in the past, and so we know how challenging it can be for patients. This is our small way of doing what we can to help out those who would like to move on after their cancer treatments.”

While some cancer survivors think of these tattoos as points of pride after a tough battle, many others prefer to have them removed so that they do not have a daily reminder of the experience. The removal of the tattoos can also signify that one has moved on after cancer and returned to their normal lives.

To take advantage of the free offer, patients must provide a letter from their radiation oncologist that gives permission to participate in the program. While Clean Slate Laser announced the launch of the service during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, it will be an ongoing program.

“Every person’s experience with cancer is different, and all survivors should get to decide if they want to keep their radiation tattoos or not,” said Garnett. “If they do decide to get them removed, our goal is to make it as easy as possible for them to do so.”

Clean Slate Laser uses recent advancements in laser technology to safely and permanently remove most tattoos. The center focuses on the removal and pre-cover-up fading of tattoos by certified laser specialists. For more information, call 914-949-7943.
