Cantor Steven Weiss was installed as the president of the American Conference of Cantors (ACC).
Cantor Weiss was 5 when his family moved to Great Neck in 1974. His parents, Fern and Mitchell, joined Temple Beth-El of Great Neck when he was 7.
Cantor Weiss was installed by his childhood cantor, Barbara Ostfeld, who remembers him as “a little boy with a cherubic face, [with] reddish blonde hair, who looked adorable in his choir robe and only wanted to sing.” At his bar mitzvah, Cantor Weiss said he would be a cantor one day.
After graduating from Great Neck North, Cantor Weiss attended Ithaca College and then received a master’s in sacred music from Hebrew Union College. Currently the cantor of Congregation Sha’aray Shalomin Hingham in Massachusetts, he is married to Dr. Stephanie Gertz and father of Breanna, 7, and Micah, 5.
