New York State Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel (D–Great Neck) has decided not to seek reelection in November. Schimel, who has served eight years representing the 16th Assembly District, will serve out her term through Dec. 31, 2016.
“The Assembly is the best job I have ever had. I am leaving in love with a great institution—‘The People’s House.’ It has been a privilege to serve my wonderful, enlightened and engaged Assembly District. I look forward to the next chapter in my life.”
Prior to the Assembly, Schimel was elected Town Clerk of North Hempstead for seven years.
