A 71-year-old pedestrian was seriously injured in Great Neck Plaza on Thursday, Sept. 28, according to the Nassau County Police Department Third Squad.

The detectives report that a 2007 Lincoln traveling southbound on Middle Neck Road struck a man who was attempting to cross the street eastbound at Station Plaza at 7:15 p.m.

The victim suffered serious head injuries and was transported by a Vigilant Fire Department Ambulance to an area hospital.

There is no apparent criminality with the accident at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

How You Can Help Make the Streets Safter

Nearly two years ago, Great Neck resident Oren Bennaeim was tragically killed nearby by a reckless driver. In his honor, a 5k/Fun Run, a Day for Safer Streets, will be held on Sunday, Oct. 7, in Grace Ave Park at 7:30 a.m.

“I want to encourage everyone in our villages to think collectively about driving and crossing streets more safely,” said the hit-and-run victim’s wife, Jivanna Bennaeim. “Please join my son and me for Oren’s 5k Fun Run.”

Register at www.safestreetsforall.org. The organizers are also looking for sponsors and volunteers for the day of the event. For further information, contact northshoreaction@gmail.com.
