The Great Neck Public Schools Adult Learning Center held their 49th annual Graduation and Awards Ceremony on June 9. The event recognized program participants who received New York State High School Equivalency Diplomas, met NYS benchmarks for English language proficiency, and demonstrated a commitment to learning through outstanding attendance.
Graduates who received High School Equivalency Diplomas were: Shailendra Autar, Samira Bral, Frank Velasquez Castillo, Celso Alves Da Silva, An Deng, Esmeralda Hernandez, Vilulla Larrea, Yihuan Li, Krystal Vazquez, Shuangli Wang, LongJun Xie, and XiaoJuan (Christine) Yang.
ENL (English as a New Language) graduates included: Mirna Arias, Meehae Back, Ya Bin Huang, Lin Li, Claudia Paola Perez Ocampo, Luis Ramirez, Kyoung Ran Shim, Sunshin Youn, and Ying Zeng.
Outstanding Attendance Award recipients were: Mei Cong, Farida Dolday, Xiaomin Huang, Amy Jeon, Kevin Korzeniowski, Runping Tang, XiaoJuan (Christine) Yang, Zhaoqin Yang, Dan (Donna) Zeng, and Ying Zeng.
Present at the ceremony were Board of Education members, district and program administrators, and faculty. Graduates also received citations and certificates provided by elected officials, including New York State Senator Anna Kaplan, Nassau County Legislator Mazi Melesa Pilip, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Jennifer DeSena, and Town of North Hempstead Councilwoman Veronica Lurvey.
The Great Neck Public Schools Adult Learning Center (ALC) provides a variety of educational opportunities for adults to improve basic skills, earn a High School Equivalency Diploma, prepare for college, or learn English as a Second Language. Classes are offered during daytime and evening hours to meet the needs of adult learners. The program administrator is Dr. Errin Hatwood.
