Thank you, Commissioner Nachmanoff, for the public apology to the Jewish community as a whole in the Aug. 17-23 issue of the Great Neck Record in your letter “Sorry Celebration Fell on Tisha B’av.”
The 100th anniversary conveniently fell on a weekend day to allow a larger number of Great Neckers join in celebrating the park’s anniversary. Unfortunately, it fell on the same
day as Tisha B’av, one of Judaism’s sacred days.
I guess the anniversary celebration could have been held the following weekend and any publicity could have acknowledged the anniversary date and the reason it was being celebrated a week later.
Again, thanks for the apology and clarification.
