Temple Beth-El of Great Neck, the Great Neck Synagogue Men’s Club and Temple Israel of Great Neck will be presenting the Gilbert & Sullivan Yiddish Light Opera Company production of Der Yiddisher Mikado on Sunday, Nov. 6, at Temple Beth-El.

The opera company has been offering productions in Yiddish and English since the 1980s and has performed popular operas along the east coast of the United States as well as in Canada and London.

“[The company]’s special Yiddish satire and ‘Jewish’ humor preserve the lovely music and spirit of Gilbert & Sullivan,” according to the opera company. “Woven into the original Gilbert & Sullivan plots are Jewish experiences and idioms, adding another dimension to the existing humor and wit. Audiences don’t have to know Yiddish to enjoy Yiddish Gilbert & Sullivan.”

This unique production is open to the public, with early-bird ticket prices available until Oct. 13. Preferred-choice seating will entitle ticket holders to their choice of seating in the first four rows as well as a post-performance reception with refreshments.

To purchase tickets or for additional information, Temple Beth-El congregants can contact Debbie Elkashash at delkashash@tbegreatneck.org or 516-487-0900; Great Neck Synagogue congregants can contact Hillel Milun at gnsmensclub@gmail.com or 516-487-6100; and Temple Israel of Great Neck congregants and members of the public who do not belong to any of these congregations can contact Jodi Engel at jengel@tign.org or 516-482-7800.
