World in Depth
Tired of hearing snide attacks by politicians? Say what you think, share notions of what might work and spend a stimulating afternoon with other active senior men and women on Thursdays at 2 p.m. Each week a different moderator, Janet de Winter, Jeigh Duran, Martha Cohen and an occasional guest, keeps the group on topic. For no charge, you can add you own opinions to the mix—agree to disagree, opt to keep the peace or have a go at it.
Womanspace Memoir Writers
Gifted and blossoming writers, under the leadership of Gladys Thomson Roth, meet to hone their skills or ready their works for publication on Monday afternoons. The group is taking the summer off to sharpen both minds and pencils in preparation for another season of challenge and stimulation. So, a rest from producing delightful essays and poems will make the group’s return to Roth and each other a truly special September.
Parkwood Pool Trips
The Great Neck Social Center and the Great Neck Park District have made arrangements for seniors to enjoy the sun, pools and pleasant atmosphere through easy transportation to the Parkwood Family Aquatic Center. To take advantage, participants must have a park card to be admitted, and should sign up at the office to ensure bus pickup to and from home.
Our Veterans Stories
Members of the Great Neck Veterans Social Club are periodically featured on Channel 20 of the Public Access TV Corporation. Many attend regular monthly meetings at the center, but it’s truly special to see them narrate their unique experiences during World War II. There’s even a show entitled Women on the Home Front. Come attend the veterans meetings on the second Friday of each month at 2 p.m., which include beverages and snacks courtesy of Atria Great Neck.
Don’t forget to check the hallway bulletin boards for celebratory events like monthly birthday parties and festive times to enjoy. Participants have great ideas for celebrating honors and fantastic family events that always result in special entertainment and delicious summer delicacies.
