South High School senior Haley Roach (center) has been selected to receive the Student of the Year Award from the Long Island Association of Special Education Administrators. Roach is flanked by Karen Cantor, her reading teacher (right), and James Morrow, special education department head. Morrow, who nominated Roach for the award, said she “has overcome many obstacles through hard work, perseverance, a never-give-up attitude and determination. She is always positive and upbeat. She never shies away from a challenge and never feels that she cannot accomplish a task or compete in an activity.” Roach will be attending Dowling College in the fall, looking to major in early-childhood education.
