My name is Matt Varvaro, and I am running for State Assembly here in Great Neck. I have lived in this district for my entire life and believe that the people of Great Neck deserve a voice for reform in Albany.
I have always had a passion for public service. In fact, I spent the last seven years of my life working in this field, including as a legislative aide to the North Hempstead Town Board, and as a research and policy aide to former Governor George Pataki.
I am running for Assembly because Albany politics are fundamentally broken and I want to be part of the solution. If elected, my number one priority will be passing serious, comprehensive ethics reform so that we can finally end corruption in Albany. I will also introduce legislation to grow New York’s economy and create jobs, lower the cost of living and doing business on Long Island, improve our public schools and protect the environment and waterways here on the North Shore.
Furthermore, Elie Wiesel’s passing reminds us that we need to be vigilant about rejecting anti-Semitism and bigotry in all of their ugly forms. This is why, when I get to Albany, I will introduce legislation preventing any taxpayer dollars from going to organizations engaged in the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions campaign against Israel. I also strongly support Senator Jack Martins’s legislation banning state funding for student organizations that engage in hate speech, including support for BDS.
I look forward to working on these and other important issues when I get to Albany, and I look forward to meeting you over the course of this campaign. I hope you’ll join us!
