Great Neck SANE/Peace Action will be holding its annual commemoration of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on Wednesday, Aug. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock in Manhasset.

During Stand for a World Without Nuclear Weapons, a World Without War, a World at Peace, there will be exciting speakers, special music by the celebrated women’s a cappella group Willow, poetry and a call to action.

The program will be dedicated to the memory of Father Daniel Berrigan, the great antinuclear and antiwar priest and poet who preached and practiced peace and nonviolent resistance. The Social Justice Committee of the UUCSR and the Long Island Alliance for Peaceful Alternatives will be cosponsoring the event.

This 71st anniversary of Hiroshima follows President Barack Obama’s historic visit to Hiroshima, where he called for a world without nuclear weapons. There will also be action calling for a nuclear abolition treaty and a freeze in the proposed trillion-dollar modernization of the nuclear weapons agenda. Refreshments will be served and all are invited to attend.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation  is located at 48 Shelter Rock Rd. in Manhasset. For more information, call 516-487-3786 or 516-741-4360.
